➤ Reagents required.
Potassium Permanganate reagent grade,
Molecular Wt. :- KMnO4, 158.03
Potassium Iodide,
Sulphuric Acid 1 Molar,
Sodium Thiosulphate volumetric solution,
Starch Solution,
➤ Preparation.
Transfer about 3.3 g of potassium permanganate reagent grade
in 1000 ml beaker add dissolve in 1000 ml of water and boil the solution for
about 15 minutes. Transfer to 1000 ml volumetric flask, stoppered the flask,
allow to stand for at least 2 days, and filter through sintered glass crucible
or using glass wool.
➤ Standardization.
Pipette out 25 ml of 0.1 N
potassium permanganate into 250 ml glass stoppered flask, add 2 g of potassium
iodide and 10 ml of 1 M sulphuric acid and titrate with 0.1 N / 0.02 M sodium
thiosulphate VS using 1 ml of starch solution, added towards the end of the
titration, as indicator. The end point is from blue to colourless. Note this
final end point as burette reading V1 ml. Similarly carry out blank
determination by using same quantities of reagent but taking 25 ml of water
instead of potassium permanganate solution.
